Washington, DC, May 12, 2011 — Over 40 Alfa Fellowship Program Fellows, alumni, and friends gathered on the evening of May 12 to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the Alfa Fellowship Program. Distinguished guests and speakers included Mikhail Fridman, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Alfa Group Consortium and Petr Aven, President of Alfa-Bank. Also in attendance was Ed Verona, President and CEO of the U.S.-Russia Business Council.
AIPT — CDS, a New York-based nonprofit organization dedicated to intercultural exchange, worked together with Alfa-Bank representatives to organize the Alfa Fellowship Program’s fifth alumni event since the program’s inception in 2004. Mr. Fridman delivered the keynote address and Mr. Aven presented awards to the Fellows returning from Moscow in recognition of their participation on the program. During his keynote address, Mr. Fridman noted the successes of the program were exemplified by the successes of those in attendance, namely the alumni, both in US-Russian relations and beyond. Guests heard a statement read on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov. Also included in the evening’s program was a presentation of a check from the Alfa Fellowship Program Alumni Association to Mr. Fridman and Mr. Aven in recognition of another of Alfa-Bank’s significant charity programs, Alfa Chance. This program provides two-year scholarships to university students from outside of Moscow to study in the capital. The alumni contribution will provide an outstanding Alfa Chance Fellow with a one-year scholarship for a third year of study.
