Romeôs Teatro dellôOpera, Italyôs main opera house and rival to La Scala, staged a highly successful production at the State Kremlin Palace. The soloists, choir and orchestra put on one of the worldôs greatest operas, Pucciniôs Tosca, which was written especially for the Teatro dellôOpera.
The show at the Kremlin Palace eclipsed all previous concerts and performances in terms of scale and entertainment. The appearance of the Rome Opera House in Moscow was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first staging of Tosca in Russia, which took place in 1902 in St. Petersburg. This production by leading opera director Franco Zeffirelli was first staged in the year 2000 to mark the 100th anniversary of Toscaôs world premiere.
The Moscow production was staged with the support of the Russian Ministry of Culture, the Russian Foreign Ministry and the company MERCURY.
